Baby Monitors are becoming the must have item for any discerning parent. Due to the vast range and selection currently available it is important to research properly to decide which is the right make and model for you. The first consideration should be what type of monitor or monitors are right for you and your baby.

Video
A video monitor will allow you to view your baby. They are available in black and white or colour LCD screens and have a huge range of features including DECT or digital technology, talk back, light sounds, pan/scan, zoom and infra red (night vision)

Audio
This type will allow you to listen to your baby. They are available in both analogue or digital (digital will typically have a longer range and a more secure signal) and similar to video monitors, also have features including light sounds, talk back, DECT, Vox and lullabies, all dependant on the model you select

Breathing Effort
Breathing Effort monitors typically come in either portable or non portable models. The portable monitors are designed to clip onto the nappy or clothing and track the breathing effort. The non portable models normally have a sensor mat which lays under the babies mattress to pick up movement.

Wireless/Internet
Wireless Video cameras are the latest in monitoring technology, enabling parents to have any amount of cameras amongst the family home all connected onto your own smartphone or IPad.

Telephone
Telephone monitors are more unusual, but are excellent devices for portability and long range. These can connect into phone lines, both static and mobile and ring a preset number if noise is detected.  Some have the ability to become a fly on the wall by calling in and listening to your baby.
